Ved bruk av generiske PROMs er det mulig å sammenligne resultatene mellom ulike pasientgrupper eller mot en referansepopulasjon. Ofte kan det være nødvendig å bruke sykdomsspesifikke PROMs for å fange opp viktige sykdomsspesifikke aspekter innen en bestemt pasientgruppe.
